Dubai is UAE’s main port and commercial
center, with the population of approximately 1 million people.
Originally, Dubai's wealth was built in the1960s on the back of the oil
industry, but now earnings from this industry make only 10% of city’s GDP.
Today, most of its GDP comes from tourism and commerce, and Dubai is rapidly
developing its finance and IT sector.
Dubai’s most important manufacturing industries are in producing paper,
beverages, chemicals, rubber and pharmaceuticals.
In last 15 years growth of Dubai’s financial services industry had a trend of
12% per year, and most of major international banks and accountancy companies
have offices in Dubai International Financial Centre (DIFC).
But, the fastest growing sector in
Dubai’s economy is definitely
tourist
industry. The government predicts that by 2010 about 10 million of people per
year will visit Dubai. Therefore, there are huge investments in order to develop
the city's recreational infrastructure.
